Hamedan Museum of Natural History is located in Bu-Ali Sina (Avicenna) University, Azadegan Blvd, Hamedan Province, Iran. This Museum is a Unique Collection of Hamedan’s wildlife, a hidden treasure in Hamedan, which attracts many travelers and tourists every year, especially in Nowruz (new year’s celebration). Each of the objects inside the museum gives a wordless speech and presents authentic documents of art, history, and culture.
History and culture of Hamedan Natural History Museum
The Museum of Natural History was established in 1972 in a 60-square-meter built area but was officially put into operation in 1992. Initially, the museum had only two rooms connected by a corridor to the taxidermy workshop. After four stages of relocation, the current building with 2000 meters built area forms the main building of the museum.
According to the experts, the Museum of Natural History was designed based on international standards that make it to have a special place not only in Iran but also in the Middle East and even the world!
Professor Jafar Mohammad Alizadeh built this museum and all the specimens have been collected by him and some interested students. During its 28-year of activity, the Hamedan Museum of Natural History has discovered some specimens for the first time in the country, but proving that they are also unique around the world requires further research. For example, the discovery of five new species of Persian Gulf fish and several specimens of fossils was first reported by the museum. Currently, in addition to tourists and researchers, many groups of students visit this museum every year.
The museum is now a valuable asset that has become a platform for scholars to study and research. In this museum, living, fossilized, and taxidermy specimens of different species, especially some ancient and extinct ones, are kept.
The first hall of this museum is the Persian Gulf Hall, where all kinds of bivalves, gastropods, snails, crustaceans, corals, and sponges of the Persian Gulf are kept. In addition, the best collection of Iranian oysters are available in this museum.
The second hall is dedicated to insects and houses the most beautiful butterflies in the world.
The third hall is for mammals and birds. The collection of birds and mammals of Iran, which have a special value, is placed in this hall.
The fourth hall is the hall of aquatic animals, in which a huge collection of Hamedan Province, Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf, and Oman fish are held. different kinds of reptiles and amphibians is a distinctive feature of the museum.
The fifth hall is for rocks, minerals, and fossils, which is unique in its kind and has its own charm for even every ordinary viewer.

If we look at the Hamedan Museum of Natural History with a curious gaze and a free mind, you will find different species of birds and mammals native to Iran and examples of unknown animal species in different parts of the world. It is mostly known for large-horned red Alborz sheep and black vulture.
