Alvand peak is 3450 m in height and has a cat-shaped cliff. Unlike what others might think, Alvand peak is not the tallest peak in this mountain range; Yakhchal peak with an altitude of 3580 m is the highest peak in Alvand mountain range. The area of Alvand Mountain is like a natural wall that protects the city of Hamedan. Geologists consider Alvand to be the largest granitic effect left from the fourth geological period, which was created by the infiltration of igneous masses. This mountain was included in the natural heritage list by the Heritage Organization of Iran and is also one of the protected environmental areas.
